ASEAS International PhD Workshop

21-22 May 2024 / Universitas Brawijaya, Malang, Indonesia

Call for papers
We are delighted to invite proposals from PhD students to participate in our inaugural international PhD workshop, hosted by the Universitas Brawijaya and sponsored by the University of Leeds.

The ASEAS international PhD workshop is an excellent opportunity for current and prospective PhD students to receive an intensive review of your papers and proposals by senior advisors. Likewise, this is a great way to meet like-minded PhD students and experts working in Southeast Asia, to exchange views on cutting edge research and the most critical issues of the day. Participants will benefit from additional skills sessions on ‘career development’ and ‘how to get published’.

Eligibility
Participants must be (a) currently enrolled for a doctoral degree, or (b) ready to submit your PhD proposal and to commence your studies in the near future.

We accept proposals from any discipline or branch of the social sciences and humanities.

How to apply
Applicants must submit a title; an abstract (max 300 words) outlining your PhD topic; your CV (max two pages); and a cover letter (max one page) explaining why you wish to participate in the workshop, how it will benefit your PhD, and your current circumstances (stage of PhD).

Participants will present a PhD chapter or a detailed research proposal (5,000 to 10,000 words), submitted one month before the workshop.

Proposals must be submitted to ASEASUK.memsec@gmail.com by 31 March 2024.

The workshop is free of charge, however participants must be members of the Association of Southeast Asian Studies. Click here for information on membership benefits and how to join. For students and early career researchers, up to three years post-PhD, membership is £16 per year.

Location and accommodation
Universitas Brawijaya, Faculty of Law, Building A / Auditorium

Free accommodation for up to three nights is available on the Universitas Brawijaya campus for workshop participants. The workshop is fully catered.
