Malang (4/12/17) – Jusuf Kalla had visited Malang, East Java on Monday to establish the “Jusuf Kalla Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center” (JKIEC) in Brawijaya University (UB). Jusuf Kalla and Mrs. Mufidah Jusuf Kalla departed from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, East Jakarta, Monday at 08.00 am by using Presidential Aircraft RJ-85 to Lanud Abdurrachman Saleh, Malang. Minister of Higher Technology and Higher Education Mohammad Nasir accompanied the Vice President during the visit. The Vice President was accompanied by the Head of the Secretariat of the Vice President Mohamad Oemar, Deputy of Human Development Policy Support and Development Affairs Bambang Widianto, Special Staff of Vice President for Economic and Financial Affairs Wijayanto, and Special Staff of Vice President for Poverty Reduction and Regional Autonomy Syahrul Udjud.

The establishment of JKIEC is the culmination of various series of activities starting with start-up competencies among students, start-up development workshops, and will serve as a place for co-working space, peer to peer learning and share ideas and peer support; JKIEC Start-Up accelerator program.

This activity is also to realize that university is one of the main pillars of new innovation sources for technological development and community entrepreneurship development through education, research and community service efforts. The seminar also tries to discuss UB researchers with other stakeholders to find the right strategy to accelerate the development of market-based technological innovation. Based on Academic Business Enterprise (BUA) Universitas Brawijaya, the activity is based on the awareness of the importance of university’s contribution in creating employment and increasing community independence through the development of technological innovation and entrepreneurship.

In addition, Jusuf Kalla also addressed his keynote speaking in “National Seminar on Technology Downgrading and Business Start-Up” at Widyaloka Building Universitas Brawijaya, and reviewed “Technology Innovation Exhibition and Business Start-Up” held by BUA UB. Centering is one of the endeavors of Universitas Brawijaya in a way to develop research results in accordance with market or community needs.

According to Rector of Brawijaya University Professor Doktor Mohammad Bisri, embedding the name of Jusuf Kalla at the institution is a tribute to the support, concern and contribution of the Vice President in encouraging the development of national innovation and entrepreneurship, especially for university students.

Bisri added that technological and start-up technology upgrading is one of UB’s steps to develop university research results in accordance with market or community needs so that it is economically viable and provides inputs to stakeholders in mapping policies related to innovation and entrepreneurship.

In addition to Jusuf Kalla, the speakers in attendance were Prof. Dr. Moh Dimyati (Director General of Research Development Kemristek DIKTI), Adang Wijaya (CEO of Green Nitrogen), Salies Apriliyanto (CEO of Marksiplus Indonesia Utama).

It was expected that this seminar, could provide policy discourse and best practice downstream innovation and technology of universities.
